Hello! I’m Lou.

My adult life has consisted of tripping from one debt to another since my friendly neighbourhood bank offered me a credit card on my 18th birthday, almost twelve years ago to the day.

I woke up one day in 2016, shortly after turning 28, and realised I was drowning. I had $60,000 in debt, I barely made the minimum repayments, and things were only getting worse.

I decided that was my rock bottom. I could not keep living this way. I completely changed the way I spent my money and worked hard to earn more. That year, I paid off $7,000, and the next I paid off $9,000.

That’s great and all, but I’m about to turn 30 and I’m kinda ready to get on with my life. So I’m on a mission to pay off $44,000 of debt by the time I turn 31 in November 2018.

I’m certainly no professional (that much should be clear) but I’ve completely changed my lifestyle, spending habits, and general behaviour in a way that’s enabling me to get out of debt. I’m going to detail these things here, in the hope that someone finds them helpful, while documenting my own journey to being debt-free.

It’ll either be a wild success or a huge, flaming disaster. Either way, it’s sure to be entertaining to watch.
